There are three types of Antarctic Protected Areas under the Antarctic Treaty System: the Specially Protected Areas, the Antarctic Specially Managed Areas and the Historic Sites or Monuments (HSM). A Historic Site or Monument (HSM) is a protected location of historic interest on the continent of Antarctica, or on its adjacent islands. Only this type of Protected Areas participates in Wiki Loves Monuments Antarctica.
